Representative Muradian Excited to Announce Massachusetts Cultural Council Grants For the 9th Worcester District

September 3rd 2015 BOSTON—Representative David K. Muradian, Jr. (R-Grafton) is thrilled to announce that the Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC) has awarded $20,700 to cultural organizations in the 9thWorcester District.

These grants support a broad range of cultural activities that benefit local residents, while supporting jobs in the nonprofit cultural sector. The announcement was made as part of the MCC’s statewide funding program, which benefits from a $2 million increase to its state appropriation approved by the Legislature in August.

“These grants will go a long way toward ensuring that the unique cultural programs of our district and across Massachusetts continue to thrive and benefit our citizens today and for years to come,” stated Rep. Muradian. “The Commonwealth’s support for the arts, humanities, and sciences enriches our communities, strengthens our economy, and helps our children explore their creativity in school and beyond.”

The grants for the 9th Worcester District include: $5,000 for the Grafton Cultural Council, $6,700 for the Northbridge Cultural Council, $4,500 for the Upton Cultural Council, and $4,500 for Gaurishankar Chandrashekhar, an expert on Southern Indian Percussion, of the Folk Arts and Heritage Program, to continue his teaching of Kaasinath Balagurunath, his apprentice.
