February 26th 2016 BOSTON – Representative David K. Muradian, Jr. (R-Grafton) is excited to announce that Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School has been awarded a grant of $407,517 as part of the Massachusetts Skills Capital Grant Program.
The Baker-Polito Administration established the Workforce Skills Cabinet shortly after taking office in order to increase the capacity and quality of vocational training and education in the Commonwealth. Through combining the former Manufacturing Training Equipment grants and the Vocational Opportunity Challenge grants, the program provides funds to eligible schools and institutions in order to help them purchase and install vocational-technical equipment.
The awards were presented to representatives from the recipient schools at a ceremony in front of the Grand Staircase at the State House yesterday afternoon. Superintendent Michael Fitzpatrick represented Blackstone Valley Tech and was presented with the check by Secretary of Housing and Economic Development Jay Ash, Secretary of Education James Peyser, Secretary of Labor and Workforce Ronald Walker, Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito, and Governor Charlie Baker.
“Blackstone Valley Tech is a tremendous asset to the 9th Worcester District, as well as Worcester County, and this grant will go a long way toward ensuring that BVT remains one of the best technical schools in the Commonwealth,” stated Representative Muradian. “It was wonderful to be at the award ceremony with Superintendent Fitzpatrick and to see BVT recognized for all of their hard work.”
