May 4th 2016 BOSTON – Representative David K. Muradian, Jr. (R-Grafton) was excited to welcome the 2015 Division 5 Massachusetts State Champion Northbridge High School Football Team on Tuesday, April 26th.
The team was accompanied by Northbridge High School Athletic Director Al Richards as well as the coaching staff: Head Coach Ken LaChappelle and assistant coaches Jess LaChapelle, John Demagian, Steve McKeon, Dave Mills and Colby Brochu. Coach LaChapelle is the winningest high school football coach in the history of Massachusetts.
The group was led by Representative Muradian on a tour of the State House that included a trip to the House Chamber where the team was recognized for their accomplishments before the entire House of Representatives, who were in session. They also took a trip to the John F. Kennedy statue on the front lawn, the Senate Reading Room, the Senate Chamber and a rare outing onto the Senate Balcony overlooking the Boston Common.
Governor Baker came out to meet the boys in front of his office on the third floor to congratulate them on their success as well. The coaches, the team, and Athletic Director Richards presented Governor Baker with a Northbridge High School Football 2015 Champions t-shirt. The Governor took a few minutes to joke around with the team and take photographs, while also voicing his displeasure that the Thanksgiving Day football games no longer hold the same stature as they once did.
At the end of the tour, the team was treated to lunch on the first floor that was provided by Representative Muradian, Senator Michael Moore, and Senator Ryan Fattman.
“Hosting the Northbridge Championship Football Team was a great moment, I am so proud of these young men and the coaches for their hard work and dedication to their sport and the pride that they have in their community,” stated Representative Muradian. “Although they were unable to make it to the tour that day as it was a very busy week at the State House, my counterparts in the Senate, Senator Mike Moore, and Senator Ryan Fattman were instrumental in planning the tour and I thank them for their help.”
