April 22nd 2016 BOSTON – Representative David K. Muradian, Jr. (R-Grafton) was excited to welcome Junior Girl Scout Troop 30222 of Grafton to the State House on April 20th.
The group of 15 girls from the Troop, made up of 5th graders from the Millbury Street School and the North Street School, were accompanied by Troop Leaders Colleen Nash and Angela Hogue as well as Kelly Carol, Gina Mahoney, Jennifer Pierce, and Melanie Casey. Representative Muradian treated the young ladies and their chaperones to a tour of the building, including stops in the Senate Reading Room, Senate Chamber, and a rare trip to the Senate Balcony overlooking the Boston Common.
The group also took a trip to the House Chamber where the girls sat in the Members’ seats while Representative Muradian told them about the history of the Chamber as well as the building itself. The tour also included trips to the Great Hall of Flags, Doric Hall, and Memorial Hall. In Nurses Hall, in celebration of Earth Day, was a big inflatable globe that the group got to go inside of to learn about the impact of environmental policy on the different countries throughout the world.
“The State House is a living, breathing museum and it was encouraging to see such young girls show so much interest in the building’s history and what is done here,” stated Representative Muradian. “Although he was unable to make it into the building that day due to a prior commitment, my counterpart in the Senate, Senator Mike Moore, was instrumental in planning the tour and I thank him for his help.”
