BOSTON- Representative David K. Muradian, Jr. (R-Grafton), recently welcomed America’s newest citizens and their families at the “New Citizens Welcome Reception” on Thursday, October 13th.
Our newest citizens and their families made their way down to the Armenian Heritage Park on the Greenway following a Naturalization Ceremony. During this ceremony, foreign born men and women were asked to take the Oath of Allegiance, which has led to American citizenship for more than 220 years. This signifies a new citizen’s dedication to America, while giving an individual the right to vote and contribute to democracy.
“I am extremely honored that I was given the opportunity to welcome America’s newest citizens, along with their family and friends, at the New Citizens Welcome Reception,” said Representative Muradian. “The day was filled with celebration, festivity and memorable experiences. These new citizens should all be justifiably proud of their amazing accomplishment and equally excited to be a part of a great country”.
The Welcome Reception contributes to the Armenian Heritage Park’s mission of inclusion. The ceremony itself helps celebrate the immigrant experience and recognizes the many contributions that immigrants bring to the American culture. During the reception, the new citizens and their families engaged in festivities that included tunes from Dan Teager’s Black Sea Salsa Band, salsa instruction from Dance Caliente, delicious desserts from Vicki Lee’s and much more.
Along with welcoming the new citizens and their families, Representative Muradian was given the opportunity to introduce Judge Rya Zobel. The 34 year veteran, Holocaust survivor and first female judge of the Federal Court in Massachusetts was the presiding Judge over the Naturalization Ceremony.
The Welcome Reception is an initiative of the Friends and Armenian Heritage Park in collaboration with the United States District Court, City of Boston / Mayer Martin J. Walsh and the Office of Immigrant Advancement, Office of Middlesex County Sheriff Peter Koutoujian, Faneuil Hall Marketplace and Rose Kennedy Greenway Conservancy. This year’s event was proudly sponsored by Eastern Bank.
